Dr. Jung & Dr. Marino, your Penticton dentists have answered a few frequently asked questions to help you achieve your best smile this season!
Do I Really Need to Have My Teeth Professionally Cleaned?
You brush and floss regularly and even use mouthwash on the occasion. Your teeth feel fine, so do you really need to come in for a professional cleaning?
Absolutely!
Professional dental cleanings go beyond what you can clean at home. Cleanings, are broken down into unites of scaling and, are necessary to prevent gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. Cleanings help remove plaque and tartar build-up on your smile before they turn into serious dental issues.
In addition to helping your smile stay healthy, polishing treatments during cleanings help your smile stay white and bright. Over time, our naturally bright smiles begin to fade. This is especially true for coffee and tea drinkers! The good news is, the stains that may accumulate on your teeth over time can be removed by your dental hygienist through polishing. Lastly, fluoride can help reduce your chances of developing cavities.

How Often Do I Need to Have My Teeth Cleaned?
Many of our patients often wonder how frequently they need to have their teeth cleaned. There’s an adage of “every 6 months”. However, this may not be the case for you. There are many factors, such as oral hygiene routine, genetics, and diet that contribute to your oral health and how often you’ll need to get your teeth cleaned. Once to twice a year is a good rule of thumb, however, if you have inflammation or other conditions, you may need to have your teeth cleaned every 3-4 months. Dr. Jung and Dr. Marino recommend getting a personal recommendation to ensure you’re getting your teeth professionally cleaned often enough.
Use Your Benefits to Spring into the Year with a Bright Smile!
Spring is a great time to start using your dental benefits! If you’re on a yearly plan that rolled over in January, you’ll want to book your next appointment if it’s been a while. If you’ve been waiting for your benefits to roll over before booking your next appointment, we recommend doing so as soon as possible. If you have any minor dental issues, waiting to have them checked out or fixed could result in them becoming larger issues.
Additionally, if you’re a student, your blackout period for your benefits is arriving soon! We recommend booking and using up your dental benefits before your coverage period is over.
Whatever your specific coverage plan is, we’re happy to help at Enamel. We gather insurance information, complete paperwork, and send any claims to your insurance provider to facilitate reimbursement. If you have additional questions about our insurance and benefits policies, get in touch with our team today!
